Changing The World One Life At A Time

Adult Services - Focus on Independent Living

With appropriate training and supports, adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders such as Asperger's Syndrome, PDD-NOS and High Functioning Autism, have the potential to lead independent, productive and fulfilling lives.  However, if the social and emotional challenges faced by adults with spectrum disorders becomes too overwhelming, serious complications can result such as depression, unemployment and relationship failure.

At FOCUS Initiative, we work in a group or one-on-one session with adults to help them become self-confident and successful members of society.  Adults are seen on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis to receive training in their specific areas of need.  Typical adult training sessions may include:

  • Social understanding

  • Perspective-taking

  • Problem solving

  • Relationship building

  • Navigating college life

  • Money management

  • Career readiness

  • Keeping a job

  • Getting along with co-workers

  • Independent living skills

We conduct a free initial consultation to determine how we can best assist in adult challenges.

The majority of medical insurance plans consider our services "educational" in nature and therefore will not provide reimbursement.  However, most employers do consider the cost of services allowable under their "Flex" spending account policies.  Please check with your employer for verification.
