Focus Initiative

Navigating the special education system can sometimes be a confusing and frustrating process for parents of children with special needs.  In situations where parents feel they need additional support or assistance, FOCUS Initiative can provide a trained advocate to help.  We are not attorneys, nor do we give legal advice; however, we can offer guidance in understanding the federal and state regulations that govern special education programs as well as a complete review and explanation of ARD/IEP documents.  An experienced advocate can make valuable contributions to the ARD planning process by providing important information that parents are often not aware of.  They can also make recommendations regarding appropriate interventions, goals and objectives, modifications, related services and placement options based on the student's specific disability and needs.

If requested, advocates can attend ARD/IEP meetings with parents. It is our philosophy to advocate for children in a child-centered, non-confrontational and positive manner so that supportive relationships and open lines of communication can be maintained between parents and school personnel.

FOCUS Initiative has provided advocacy services to families in the following   school districts:

Advocacy Fee is $100.00 per hour (Initial Consultation of 30 minutes at no charge) Fee includes consultations, documentation review, ARD/IEP preparation, ARD meeting attendance, school staffing, research and phone calls over 15 min. 

If ARD meeting attendance is requested, a 3-hour retainer fee of $300 is required in advance.  Standard mileage rates will apply to travel of 25 miles or more one-way.  There is no additional charge for travel time.
